The story takes place in a shattered Twolegplace, after a civil war had broken out. From the ashes rose a clan of their abandoned and starving kitty pets, known as the Veined Ones. They've started to hunt prey twice as large as they are in order to keep their very large group fed.
Emerald is a young shecat, daughter of a loner named Eaglebone and a now dead kitty pet named Frisk. She was abandoned after a barrage of abuse from her grieving mother, and Duskwood took her into the territory of the Veined Ones. She must endure several trials of war and bloodshed in order to make the fallout her home.

Rockpaw feels like an outcast, everyday being hated on by his Clanmates for seeing things differently. So when the chance to prove them wrong comes up, he doesn't give it a second thought.
