Elias Khoudair is starblind; an inherited illness that doesn't allow him to use his lune-magic without hurting himself. Desperate to find the rumoured treatments, he works at a low-end bakery in Vedenis alongside Kafira Yaliz, a Variskan Fourth Star working across the Lunsiolar Threshold. 

When the former Prince of Variska shows up at the bakery without any sol-magic and a handful of dangerous secrets, seeking help from a mentor from his past, he unwillingly enlists them into a quest that doesn't just put their lives-but the future of the Twin Capitals at stake. 

Elias discovers the truth about his own illness, the Astrays that have been missing for decades, and finds himself increasingly drawn to the mysterious former prince in the midst of increasing tensions between the Cities.
