In this third novel of the Terribly Acronymed Detective Club, a year has passed since the events of "Rude Awakenings." Rachel and Al are now foster parents to a teenage brother and sister, whose alcoholic mother is back in rehab. As respectable a family as they may be, they haven't given up their relationship with Lauren, who is still married to Joe, whose narrative is central to this story. He's in his own relationship with Joanie Mara, a sergeant in the RCMP, an arrangement sanctioned by Lauren herself that isn't without its hiccups.

Into this powder keg of emotions lands a crisis that draws the LSDC unwillingly into a world of drugs, trafficking and murder, when Logan, the foster son, finds himself in custody after a midnight deal goes horribly wrong and his mother is found dead under suspicious circumstances.

Protecting him from people who don't have his best interests at heart proves to be harder than they imagined, especially after Joe, increasingly suspicious of Lauren and Al, makes a decision that sets off a series of destructive events. But when tragedy strikes and Logan falls into danger, can the five childhood friends rise above their conflicts and work to save his life?

"How bad of a person am I if I want to continue where we left off back then at Liana's house? Knowing that now you are married?" "If it's for me to decide, then not bad at all." I murmured, my hand finding its place on the small of her back, drawing her closer. From the outside, Marie's life seemed flawless: a thriving career in the family business, a husband climbing the political ladder, and a mansion that screamed success. But beneath the polished veneer, her eyes betrayed a haunting sadness. Work was her only refuge, the one thing that numbed the pain. Once, she had known true happiness. She had a loving family and a best friend Kate who was closer than just a friend. Her best friend made her feel alive in ways her husband never could. But seven years ago, everything changed. In the dead of night, without a word, Kate vanished, leaving Marie with nothing but unanswered questions and a broken heart. What happens if suddenly their paths cross again when Marie's uncle, the CEO, hires Kate to fix a data breach? Forced to work together, they must face their past and their feelings. But they are not the same teenage girls they once were. They both have secrets that could ruin everything. As they inch closer to the truth and to each other, they will discover that everyone in their circle conceals a sinister secret. ------------------------------------------------------------------- This story is a mix between detective and romance with dark criminal content and a description of explicit scenes.
