It's hard to say I love you as you mean it to the person that considered you less than what you wanted to be.
"Why aren't you saying it back? You always say it back, "
"Because..." I trailed off, looking up at the sky for words that I know aren't anywhere to find. I began playing with the rubber band around my wrist.
"You're so weird. That's why I love you so fucking much, you know that right?" he said, leaning toward me poking the point of my nose with his index.
Then it hurts. It hurts to hear him say that phrase to me, it pierces deep into my core not to hold him like he is mine. Still, I want him to say those three detrimental words to me, even though every time he does, a part of my soul is torn apart.
"Hey, I love you, " he repeated scanning me with assuring eyes.
I smile.
Anything just to hear him say I love you, even if things don't go as I crave.
But every night he is loving somebody else while I break thinking about it.
"I love you, " I whispered.

He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past. He becomes enamored with her, feels like she was made for him while still battling the demons of his past and soon it all becomes too much for him to handle. He makes a heartbreaking decision, thinking it's what's best for both of them and everything changes.
