Pleading insanity seems like a good idea when it's hypothetical. Harry however, doesn't have much choice in the matter. After being charged with a triple homicide, it leaves him to decide between prison and an asylum. In the asylum, Harry finds himself agreeing to an anonymous pen pal to stay connected to the world.
On the other hand, Parker didn't choose to do this, it's more a requirement for law school.
