It has been two months since Eragon & Saphira left Alagaesia. Finally, they have found a sanctuary for the Eldunari & a new generation of Riders - the ancient home of an ancient race.

Back home, something has riled King Orrin in Surda to the south, & the seat beside Queen Nasuada's throne has been filled by a werecat with his own agenda.

Arya is once more egg-bearer: from the new Urgal city to Tronjheim. She & Fírnen are followed in their quest by a shadowy creature, impossible to shake & known only by its green cloak & strange weapon.  

While Nasuada attempts to reunite Alagaesia & fend off dangers in her own castle, while Arya & Fírnen seek the next Rider, while Eragon & Saphira begin the task of taming the wild Mor'rangrind, Murtagh & Thorn journey north for adventure & redemption. In an encounter with a nameless foe, they find a purpose in defending everything the Riders hope to build.

Two years after the end of The Inheritance Cycle (one year after FWW), we follow Murtagh and Thorn as they hurry across Alagaesia, trying to warn their friends of a potential threat, and unravel the mystery of a witch stalking across the land. Murtagh faces past demons and Thorn tries to convince him to accept the love and help of his family and friends. C1: Nasuada is surprised when Murtagh shows up suddenly and violently in Ilerea, saving her life in the process C2: Roran is trudging through winter in Palancar Valley when his estranged dragon rider cousin appears in his barn, wounded and in need of help. C3: Eragon is shocked when Thorn plummets out of the sky above Mt. Argnor with an unconscious Murtagh on his back. The First Dragon Riders by Cerberous10

This is a prequel to the Inheritance Cycle. This is how the first Dragon Riders came to be and how they change to help Alagaesia from those who wish to harm it. Once the truce between dragons and elves is made the dragons gave the elves three eggs, once they hatched the new riders must train to become the heroes and protectors Eragon (the original one not Eragon Brom's son) expects them to be, but then the new queen Dellanir forbids dragon riders to enter the elves' forests, making it a little more difficult. Afterwards Eragon appoints the Rider's new leader and leaves with another rider to explore other lands beyond the Edda River. Winner of the TR Awards in the Group 3 (1k views) category

The Dark Hours - Eragon Fanfic by StoryDreamBeliever

When his erratic behavior and alcoholism get out of control, his dragon Thorn and his brother Eragon take him to see the Eldunari, who encourage him to face the horrors of his past in order to overcome his pain. With the help of Thorn and the Eldunari, he dives into the sea of memory and must wade through the hurt and torment to come out whole on the other side. Note: This is part 2 of a series that follows Murtagh's story post-Inheritance.
