The war in Duro had done many things, but elevating the status of women was not one of them.

In Duro, women had always been more property than person. Kitsuk grew up fearing men, hating them with a fierce passion. When the war freed her from oppressive lords and brothers, she escaped into the wild, vowing to remain untamed forever.

But after years on her own, Kitsuk is captured again, facing a fate worse than death. The men coming to inspect her are interested in far more than her domestic abilities. Back in the situation she vowed to avoid, Kitsuk is left questioning how far she'll go to escape the cruelty of men. Yet these new masters aren't what she expected. Instead of taking what they want, they intend to court her-something that makes her deeply suspicious.
