This is a very old Ereri one-shot I wrote a while back. No smut, very minimal relationship progression.  Very sensitive topics are discussed

How many I protect. If I let someone get close, they die. It's like..." He paused, voice tightening. "Like the universe has it out for them the second I give a damn." Elsa remained still against him, heart tight in her chest. "That's my curse," he muttered. "I call it a fatal attraction. Every time I start to care, start to feel something, it's like a damn target gets painted on their back. And I'm the one that handed over the brush." His voice dipped even lower.
