But what she didn't know was that the dangers weren't the assassin. She was; and she never knew that the Three Moons didn't only protect her. They also killed her.

Book 2 of the Half Blood Realm Series Consistently spending some well needed time with her boyfriend after the defeat of the Titan Lord of Time a couple months ago, Annabeth Chase had gotten all too comfortable with the normal life of a human again. She'd almost forgotten what it was like to have her life in danger, being half immortal and all. This rocked her world just as much as anything else when it came time for her to snap back into gear after an attack on her and her aforementioned boyfriend while on a date. Losing Percy in the wreckage, Annabeth is driven with a need to find him and this puts her, unknowingly, in the path of some new recruits while at Camp Halfblood. One of them in particular seemed to be a vital key to the puzzle Annabeth had put together and just when she became aware of how important this new recruit was, he admitted to having amnesia and not knowing who he was and much less outside of his first name. Tasked with acting as Head Counselor and keeping an eye on the amnesiac, much to her distaste, Annabeth tries to keep her mind in one piece while also trying to find her boyfriend as well as the demigod that just vanished into thin air with him after attempting to kill them both. How well would she fare against a rogue demigod upstart intent on destroying everything she fought to build?

It's a sweet and deep romance about two characters negotiating their feelings for each other while life is doing everything to tear them apart. The characters have such mature conversations and, there's no reliance on the miscommunication trope at all. I'm *obsessed.* If you enjoy intriguing fantasy novels with deep and thoughtful themes, check out 'The Gifts of Mortality' by @eleanorkennedy14 . It explores the concept of mortality and how it gives life meaning through the eyes of both gods and humans. The story follows Samil, the god of the Festivals and the Arts, who is shocked by the apathy of his fellow gods when a human terrorist group gains control over the Goddess of Death. Despite finding no support among his kind, he's determined to help the humans, which sets him down an interesting course. There are lots of great twists in this novel, and I also loved seeing how queerness was worked in throughout both the immortal and mortal realms. Samil is a sweet and refreshing character to root for who is determined to see the good in the world.Complete
