Kits of unknown origin are brought to the RiverClan. Despite great opposition from the clan, Sagestar decides to accept them. Nobody tells other clans about it and it is assumed that these are kits born in the clan. However, no one knows what kind of danger they bring. The kits grow up and soon the characteristics that distinguish them from the RiverClan cats are apparent. They have trouble fitting in with their clan. The fact that other clans are starting to suspect something doesn't help anyone. A conflict breaks out between the RiverClan and the other three clans that seem to have no end or resolution. It only brings losses. Now the same kittens that moons ago were taken to the clan and brought the conflict are ready to resolve it, although it will not be an easy task.

However, the pressure to be better than the other kits and apprentices starts to get to him. Being the son of the Clan deputy, he struggles to prove himself as an apprentice. But when he takes a chance to make something of himself, he is severely injured and he is cast into the shadows as his brother grows to be the better cat.
