A lonesome teenager in the 1980s makes unlikely friendships and learns to love herself.
Hattie Erickson has never been popular. She never had any friends and was basically invisible to the world. People knew her as that weird girl who draws all the time, reads comic books, watches nerdy movies, and writes in a diary. This had never bothered her until freshman year of high school where she must venture through it as a weird girl without the help and guidance of her father, who died recently, and instead with her mother, the perfect blonde cheerleader-type woman who had been the most popular at her high school. By joining the most powerful clique in school, Hattie's days of unpopularity seem to be behind her, despite the fact she sacrifices her personality in order to fit in with people who treat her with no respect. Come senior year, she finds herself friends with Aubrey Goodman, Mona Bailey, Bonnie Salvage and Wanda Warner. The four of them are by far the most hated and unpopular people at the school. Hattie senses there is more to them than meets the eye and discovers their biggest secret. Realizing how much she'd rather be their friend, Hattie has to make a tough decision. Should she remain popular and make it through high school in one piece, or pursue a friendship that can bring both happiness and danger?

"What the hell did you do!?" I heard a feminine voice behind me. I groaned and turned around to meet a very angry face. I have never seen a girl this pissed before and honestly speaking, I am a little bit afraid. "She knew what she was getting into. Everyone knows I am player and I never stick to one girl." I noticed the crowd that started forming around us. I shrugged her hand away from my t-shirt and glared at her. "I will not apologize to anyone." I said slowly through gritted teeth. She is starting to piss me off. No one clashes me and no one stands against me. Even though I am new here, everyone knows that. I saw her eyes go blank and before I could duck, her fist made contact with my face and I felt sharp pain coursing through my nose. I held my nose tight and felt warm liquid flowing to my lips. Olivia Claire is a 16 year old high scholar. She is a fighter who never took anyone's shit and is famous for it. She mostly minds her own business occasionally helping people that might need her. Carter Grayson is a 16 year old guy recently transferred to Olivia's high school. Tall, handsome guy with lean figure, hazel eyes, brown hair and smile to die for. He has been known to be a player in his last high school and he plans on continuing that identity. An Unexpected Moment
... that changes everything Sarah was starting her junior year of high school. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw a pretty average blonde haired, blue eyed, teenager. She was neither in the popular group, nor one of the many cliched outsiders. Sarah was a nobody. She liked to blend in and lay low. It was her way out of not only this town, but her house. No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy. Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either. It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote. When one meet turns out to be Claire claiming him hers, he is left devastated and knowing that not to mess with "The Claire Cooper", Lucas has no option but to give in.
