INNOCENCE LOST (Rewriting)
"Forever, I had stayed silent, closed off, cut by the doldrums of family politics and societal pressures. Buried under biased judgements, I dwarfed to insignificant heights. But, inside the blaze fought to seize power-an inferno. Raging flames fuelled to perfection-burning hot with wrath, scorched by hindered expectations and smothered under unrealized dreams. Beauty and the beast reside together, working in unison. When one sleeps another awakes. Every beauty has a beast, brought alive by a trigger. I was a beauty, but then shit happened. Still, I smile. I laugh. I cook. I sew. I make love. I'm a good girl. But, good girls aren't necessarily good, it's just that they aren't bad in the traditional way. ---------------------------------------------------------- "You will get used to it...just a matter of time", her mother stated. "Every girl goes through this phase." It's easier said than done. For Sreya, the statement failed to shed a warm light, never had. And growing up in Swarupnagar, a suburb in one of the most dead corners of Kolkata didn't contribute much to the situation either. Dreams aren't bound, neither by words nor by limitations. Sreya dreamt for just one thing-get out of the system and create a life of her own. But, not every dream can be fulfilled; even worse, what if they come at a cost? What happens when your past that you skilfully camouflage haunts as your worst nightmare and the institution of marriage that people hold as sacred is rigged at the very core! I am a Poet, surfing the rainbows... Squandering the few surviving winks in my dreamy eyes. I, a well accompanied loner, saunter amidst the fireflies.
