A boy born to a fishing family in Berk loses his parents in a dragon raid. While fishing out in the open seas, he hooks a scauldron who he injures by throwing a spear at it. Eventually, he finds it and begins to heal it, contrary to what he felt for dragons when they killed his parents as he doesn't have the heart to kill it. They form a bond and he names it Sea Strike. Following Hiccup through his journey, their bond grows even stronger.

Hiccup begins to suffer from night terrors that make him want to stay along with battling his own mental condition. Things go south again when an unexpected traitor hands Hiccup over to the ones who want to destroy him mentally and physically.
