The ghost of Christmas past may be the perfect nudge into the future…
Lillian Langston is almost ready to throw in the towel when her husband, U.S. Marshal David Langston, rides out after the deadly Foster Gang mere days before Christmas. A former soldier and renowned lawman, Davy has not adjusted well to married life. Instead he is rarely home, and all too frequently he slips into the overbearing, overprotective tendencies that almost prevented her from marrying him in the first place. Hoping to rekindle the passions that had drawn them together, Lilly had planned the perfect Christmas. Now it seemed Christmas would be yet another night spent at home… alone.
When word reaches Lilly that Davy had been ambushed and killed by the murderous Foster Gang she is completely devastated. But the gang members will occasionally come to the small farm where they live and take supplies or take a rest from being pursued by law. Around a year and a half earlier, Holly met a man. Devlin Riley. Devlin is a Texas Ranger. He p and Holly fall in love and marry, and Holly has a baby, Owen. For the period of time that Devlin is a part of their lives, there is some stability for Holly and Jessie. He provides for them financially, and when the family gang of outlaws find out she is married to a lawman, they keep their distance for a while. Holly contacts influenza and dies.
