She fiddles with her tattered bracelet. "I'm really sorry." She says, sounding somewhat guilty. "Not your fault." I reassure her, reaching out and ruffling her still capless hair. "We should get goin'." I grip her arms, spin her around and sling my arm over her shoulders as we sluggishly make our way to the front doors. Sam rests her head gently against the side of my chest. "You should probably ice that." She says through a smile. "Yes, ma'am." I say, squeezing her lightly. She giggles. _____________________________________________ She is closed off. He is distant.
