The novel follows the story of the nymphomaniac Cecilia, a welsh woman who lived in the early 20th century and worked in a brothel, seen through the eyes of a descendant of her, Jemma, which is reading Cecilia's memories.
Jemma also has a promiscuous sexual life and her mother suggests that it might be a propensity.
Her ancestry Cecilia started to feel sexual desire since the childhood and initially diagnosed with hysteria in teenage years, before understand her attitude and start a career as public woman.
