Romance
A story of finding oneself after a tumultuous war. Clara is a widow. Most of her time is occupied with making things out of clay in her studio, with two purposes: to scrap together some form of income and to forget about the war that tore apart a generation in France. But who could have predicted that all of her prayers would be answered when a desperate woman came into her shop, begging for Clara to sculpt a new face for a soldier wounded in the war? Etienne is that soldier. Bearing the scars of his fight in the trenches across his face, he struggles to come to terms with the horrors of what was witnessed. And two years after the end of the war, he has yet to heal. Ashamed by his injuries and startled by loud noises, he struggles to speak, function, and integrate himself back into a society that now seems alien. As Clara accepts the challenge of creating a face mask, she will encounter Etienne and see the man beneath his shattered exterior. Etienne will be reluctant to have someone study his face in close detail but Clara's alluring creative and calm energy will draw him out of his shell, prompting him to speak for the first time in years. As they draw closer, they will dig deep to reconnect with the people they once were. For Clara, that means finding love again. As for Etienne, all he wants is to be seen. But when Etienne's wife and children pop back into his life, it will rock the soul-searching transformation in both Etienne and Clara, threatening to crumble it all to the ground. What begins with an innocent compulsion to feel turns into a heart-wrenching decision between passion and responsibility.
