Nevai and Toriola Odeli were not thrust into a story. They were bred for it, nursed on revelry and wickedness, laid on broken wings and shattered promises.
Betrayal was their butter, malice their milk, cruelty an acquired taste, one they found quite a liking for.
Nevai, for one, is a blade, and one worth wielding. She bleeds and laughs, falls and dances, but she sheds no tears. Nevai is a weapon and weapons do not weep.
Toriola is a necklace, made of the purest silver. Blood red jewels, and wicked sapphires, she is above them all. Her eyes remain painfully dry for metal is made to shine, not shy away.
Weapons do not weep, sapphires shed no tears but our legends want to be queens. And crowns?
If crowns could cry, we would all drown in the tears.
Perhaps not even the sharpest blade and purest silver are a match for cries of a crown.
Nevai and Toriola are not heroes. But they will be legends. Come along for the story, perhaps you too may acquire the taste for tears?
