Heart of Fire series Book 1

Ember is a young girl who, though a shy and naïve individual, considered her life to be pretty good. When everyone and everything she knew turned upside down for her in middle school, she accidentally found herself armed with powers over fire that had been dormant all her life. Ashamed, she ran off, committing herself to self-exile in secret for years in the forest beyond her old home. Only after a chance encounter with an element wielder like her has she discovered that there might be a place for her after all.
A mysterious man named Lythios is training the Catalysts, a group of humans with elemental powers. They are to combat Kaltath, the dark being who, though locked away for many years, is rising from his imprisonment. If he succeeds, then the world will be wrought with elemental imbalance on a catastrophic level. Now, Ember must learn to control the fire that she fears or the people of the world she never wanted to harm will face the consequences of the powers that the Catalysts never should have had.
