❝The‌ ‌Chrysanthemum‌ ‌Throne‌ represents the Imperial Family of Japan, yet, it is also for the country and the people. The Emperor must always remind himself of that, or else His Majesty will be blinded so much by his own greed that he cannot see his suffering subjects.❞

Set in Feudal Japan, the youngest Imperial Princess of Emperor Nijō, Imperial Princess Sakura, is strung between a military coup and a forbidden romance with an unruly samurai who did the most dishonourable thing a samurai could ever do. He betrayed his master.

After disaster strikes because of a sudden coup, Princess Sakura is separated from her family and torn from her comfortable home. Stranded in unfamiliar territory and hopelessly unknowledgeable about the world outside her sheltered life, she finds solace with a ronin- a wandering and masterless samurai- by the title-less name of Sanjuro Maki. Together, they navigate the vast land of Kyoto and beyond while Sanjuro comes face-to-face with his past and a woman he never could have expected.

Whilst Emperor Nijō deals with the aftermath of the coup and the separation of his family, an ally he trusted the most leads a rebellion, furthering the betrayal and anguish he must war with. In an attempt to recruit his separated children while fighting for his rightful place on the Chrysanthemum‌ ‌Throne‌, the Emperor accuses his daughter, Imperial Princess Sakura, and the infamous ronin, Sanjuro Maki, for a revolt they never participated in.

In this sweeping historical fantasy romance, war and love collide with nothing but death and betrayal to spare in its aftermath.
