As readers, we all feel like books are magic. But in Alia's world, they really are-or The Book is, at least. They say it was a gift from the gods, the source of the magic that runs through Beldara and a way to document the amazing adventures of the Heroes. Alia has always been fascinated by the Book and its wonderful stories, but her gender and birth mean she can never join the priesthood and tend to the storytelling magic.

But when something goes wrong in the latest chapter of the Story, only Alia's ability for reading has a chance at unraveling the mystery. She'll have to fight her way against great odds--first against the willpower of her elders and then against the terrors of the outside world--if there's to be any chance at success. Good thing she has a few Heroes at her side... Or is it?

The first 50,000 words of this were written in 30 days for NaNoWriMo 2014. The rest is continuing at fast pace, and updates are once a week. Check it out if you love reading, magic, adventure, romance, and a fresh and original story.

She had it all - riches, a college scholarship, a girlfriend - until her conservative, hyper-religious parents found out about the girlfriend and made her choose between conversion therapy and disownment. That was the end of her academic career. Three years later: She meets a shy public reference librarian in a bookstore. He's been waiting his whole life for her. Meanwhile, she's starting her whole life over. What ensues between the two neurodivergent lovers is magic. Given that he's about to become her tutor in the magickal and erotic arts, that's only to be expected. But at what cost? The mysterious older man is all she could ever have wished for, but she may need to choose between her developing identity and the most profound love she has ever known. An awkward bookworm searching for her inner strength A magus (and closet vampire) who also happens to be a sexual dominant An age gap, a forbidden romance, and a quest for gnosis ════════════════════════════════════ This edition of Ancilla has been serialized for greater ease of smartphone use. Like the original edition, which was added to Wattpad After Dark's BDSM booklist on May 10, 2024, it contains mature and explicit material. Reader discretion is advised. Readers who are stumbling on this novel in search of "spice" will find it, and it is hotter than a ghost pepper - however, be advised that compared to other books of this nature, Ancilla has a very slow burn, and there is more to the plot than just "spice." Like all my other books, this novel is self-illustrated. Some of my art incorporates snipped pieces of AI-generated images that I rendered in Canva Pro. The other layers of my illustrations use free stock images, photographs taken by me or my husband, and public-domain fine art.

Danielle Carpenter has lived a life some might call boring, but she'd always loved language, and however much her parents might say specializing in Old English is a useless waste of life, it was her passion. But things are about to change. A seemingly harmless pastime leaves her life in shambles; with all she had ever held dear gone, her life is boiled down to just struggling to stay alive. When, months later, she is rescued, it isn't to return to the life she once knew, but to one she's wholly unprepared for. She scrambles for a grasp on things as legend and reality blend. Should she let the legend play out to its foregone conclusion? Or should she try for a happily ever after for all, and the consequences be damned... *This is my 2016 NaNoWriMo project, so enjoy and as always, any feedback is greatly appreciated.*
