An intelligent and softspoken artist, Mavis Castor lives a quiet life in Santa Barbara, California. She and her childhood friend Murray leave their three other friends behind to pursue their careers in art, in another small beach town hours away. After losing her best friend, Mavis crosses paths with Lux Devaney, a loud, charismatic woman who has the remarkable power of stealing the heart of anyone she meets. It isn't long before Mavis' life begins to take on the characteristics of the waves that surround her new beach town home.
