Before SHIELD, Natasha and Clint tried to kill each other.
Natasha works for the KGB, hunting down HYDRA traitors in the system. When she's assigned a job at the Russian ballet, she battles memories of her past she never wanted to face again.
Clint is a fugitive, framed by his brother for attempted murder. Some guy in a suit shows up, Special Agent Phil Coulson, representing a government division Clint can't pronounce, with the offer of a fresh start and Clint finds himself a brand new recruit of SHIELD.
Then there was Budapest where no amount of training could prepare them for the choices they would be forced to make.

Before SHIELD was truly SHIELD they preformed an experiment which took the DNA of an eagle and the DNA of a lion and combined them. They created a creature of myth, a griffin. The griffin is chosen to become part of SHIELD but it has it's costs. Fury pairs him up with a new agent to see how he does. Clint Barton isn't sure how he'll adapt to having a creature that can kill him with one push but they become closer than either of them could either imagine. In a different time a lion cub is taken from her mother and forced to live in a school for girls. She meets Natasha and they begin to train together.
