Wyrd marks once again connect Erilea with a world outside its borders, creating a portal and stealing the second son of the High Lord and Lady of the Night Court, Ayden Archeron, from his home in Velaris and leaving him in the Oakwald forest where the heir of Terrasen plays.
Ten years later both Terrasen and the Night Court are connected again as nine people from the two worlds are thrown into the past. With time racing against them these chosen nine must return to their time and worlds before the fabrics of reality are permanently torn and the future of their homes is lost.

On a routine seizure of information and to wipe out Hybern assets, the Spymaster and General of the Night Court come across a woman, beaten and weak, supposed to be Hybern's weapon master. They take her back to Velaris to heal and meet with the High Lord, but as the soul tie snaps together, another bond does as well to the High Lords' brother, Prince Ascelin. Being thrown back into society, Aether must navigate healing her trauma, meeting her new found family, and grow into her role as the Mother gifted Guardian.
