Veronica Carson, a divorcée turned nanny, has a dark past. She has such a dark past that she doesn't even think about it often herself. Hugo Lewis, a widower, is trying to raise his children by himself. He's been touched by grief so deep that he isn't interested in anyone ever again.

Two years after his wife passed, Hugo realizes that he needs someone else to help him raise his kids. Ironically enough, Veronica takes the job. As they work closely together, both Veronica's and Hugo's walls come crashing down, and that scares them both. To make things worse, Veronica's past is catching up to her, and it's hurting Hugo and his family.
