Luke has lived on the Isle of the Lost his whole life. A VK without a family, he's just been focused on surviving and helping out his best friend Reggie, who doesn't have the best home life. But on the Other Side is Auradon, and the chance for things to be so much better.
On the Other Side of the bridge is Julie, daughter of Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. The death of her mother and a traumatic experience involving a certain princess-turned-evil has made the last few years really hard. Combined with prejudiced student body president Bobby Wilson, and the constant scorn of his younger sister Carrie, Julie's got a lot to handle. But when she and her friend Alex run into two new VKs as they're crossing the bridge, Julie doesn't know what she's getting into.

After an alarming incident, Julie's dad (the King), assigned her and Carlos each a knight to keep them safe for the first time in their lives. Carlos is fine with it, but Julie is not exactly thrilled with having a strange brooding boy follow her everywhere- especially when she's still trying to find her place in the kingdom after the death of her mom. It's not easy to figure out who you are and pick up pieces of who you were when someone is breathing down your neck, and she makes sure Luke and her dad (the King) know how how she feels. Her dad (the King), won't budge and lets Luke keep his post despite all of Julie's efforts to get him sent away. Princess Brielle Florian and Prince Benjamin Florian are both the next rulers of the United Kingdom of Auradon, both being crowned on the same day. With Ben being immediately lovestruck by the daughter of the fae Maleficent, his twin sister goes on high alert as she realizes the kids might have some sinister plans for Auradon. Not allowing any feelings to get in her way of protecting her kingdom, not willingly that is. When the VKs realize that the future queen will not be easy to fool they have to make a Plan B to ensure that neither she nor her brother will get in the way of their plans, or so they thought.
