Luffy and Portgas Akari (who took Ace's surname because she saw him as close to an older brother as anyone, and he insisted she take it) have the pleasure of meeting 'Red Haired' Shanks, and thus paving the way towards them wanting to become pirates. Now at the age where they can set out on their own, Luffy and Akari have begun their pirate journey, and it is all uphill from there.
