As she walked into the living room, she noticed something was off. Her husband, Tavian, was sitting on the couch, staring at the floor with a distant look on his face. She had never seen him like this before, and it made her heart sink.
"What's wrong, Tavian?" she asked, sitting down beside him.
He looked up at her, and for a moment, she thought he was going to tell her that he loved her. But then he spoke, and her world fell apart.
"I want a divorce," he said, his voice cold and distant.
She felt a sharp pain in her chest, as if someone had punched her in the heart. She had no idea where this was coming from. They had been married for five years, and she thought they were happy. What had gone wrong?
"Why?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Tavian looked away, unable to meet her eyes. "It's complicated," he said.
She pleaded with him to tell her what was wrong, but he refused. He simply said that he couldn't be with her anymore, and that was that. She watched as he packed his bags and walked out the door, leaving her alone with her pain.
For weeks, she tried to get in touch with him, but he wouldn't answer her calls or texts. She was left with nothing but her thoughts, wondering what had gone wrong. She went over every moment of their marriage, trying to find a clue how as to why he would do this to her. But nothing made sense.
Eventually, she heard from a friend that Tavian had started dating someone else. It was like a punch in the gut. How could he move on so quickly, without even telling her what was wrong? It was clear that he didn't care about her feelings.
The divorce proceedings were long and painful, but in the end, she signed the papers and let him go.
She was left with a hole in her heart, wondering what could have been if only he had been honest with her.
