It was raining. As a matter of fact it was so cold that I watched my breath turn to white puffs upon making contact with the air.

I wasn't expecting to see her that night.

I wasn't really expecting to see anyone.

There are really only a few reasons that one might run along the beach in 30' weather at night.

Tonight I was sad.

But something about this girl's hunched over position (maybe it was how her hair was covering her face, or how silent she was as she watched the waves). It told me that she was even sadder.

At first I wasn't sure if I should approach her, after all she was alone for a reason, wasn't she?

Still, against my better judgement i slowed to a walk and called out to her,

"Excuse me, are you alright?"

She flinched at my words, rightfully so

"I'm doing just perfect." were the very first words she spoke to me.

I will always remember them.
