Ten years ago Nina Jay's big sister Karen went missing, along with seventeen other girls and boys in the sleepy English town of Hamlin. Long thought to be a victim of the still at large serial killer nicknamed The Piper, Nina and her parents have never quite managed to fill the hole that Karen left when she vanished.
As Nina approaches her seventeeth birthday, the age Karen was when she left, strange things start happening. Strange messages taunt the Jay family and the other victim's familes, leading the town to believe The Piper may yet launch another assault on the children of Hamlin and the town goes into lockdown.
But when a mysterious young woman looking remarkably like an adult Karen Jay is found lost and dazed, Nina is faced with a desperate hunt for the truth. Is this Jane Doe her sister? Who is the Piper and what is his end game? And will Nina make it through Hamlin, alive?
