Gale Wynters lives in a smallish town called Damysor, and she is rather bored with her life there. Spending time with her cousin Kalyn, completing chores on her family's farm, dealing with an annoying sister, and reading fills her days.
Then, one day, during Berrying, a disaster causes the town to collapse. When the local dragons arrive, they offer to aid in the town's rebuilding. In exchange, some of the residents will return with the dragons to live with them for a time.
