Even up till today, there are lots of uncharted course in the art of communicating effectively. It is why companies and agencies budget billions annually to train their staffs in the art. 
There are many definitions for effective communication, with the most basic being: When there is mutual understanding between the speaker and the listener or the speaker has not spoken more than needs to be said, and the listener has not understood more than what is meant to be.
