Nicholas lives in the forests during the year, hibernates through the winter and doesn't take anything seriously. He's a Sprite, and is quite happy as he is. However, when he wakes up for his twentieth spring, his Messenger, Zekiel, has some news he's not very happy about.
It's time for Nicholas to mate.
When his 'mate' arrives on scene, he finds her a little more than he can bear and turns to Zekiel for help. The two develop a friendship without quite realising that they're falling in love. After all, you can only love your mate, right? And anyway, they're not gay... are they?
