After the bombs fell on October 23rd, 2077 Charlotte's life changed forever. She and her husband Nate ran to Vault 111 which had only been offered to them mere minutes before the attack. Thinking they were safe with Vault-Tec, "prepared for the future!" as the company claimed, Charlotte and Nate with their infant son Shaun prepared to live their new lives underground and wait for the day they could return to their world on the surface.

This did not happen.

Instead, they were all frozen in time, locked away underground without any warning and when Charlotte woke up, her worst nightmares came true. Shaun was kidnapped and Nate killed right before her eyes.

Now, Charlotte must find her son and there's nothing on the planet that will stop her, not even the bombs that caused all her misfortune in the first place.

A Different Virus - Laura's Story ni CrystalScherer

This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? Is this fleeting shadow something that can help her or could this mysterious figure be even more dangerous than the zombies themselves? ---------------------- Ranked #1 Apr 10, 2018 (A huge thank you to all who read and voted!) This story is copyright and built from my own imagination. This book was a special request from someone who helped me a lot. This viewpoint has less action than the original. The cover was made by @All_AboutAssymetry. A huge thanks to her! Copyright September 2016. All Rights Reserved. Readers may not copy, alter, or steal this story. In the heart of Texas, beneath the ruins of a nation that once stood as the world's last superpower, they awaken. Fifty-five thousand soldiers, warriors of the old world, preserved in cryogenic sleep since the twilight of America. With them, their families-men, women, and children frozen alongside the last true remnants of the United States Army. It was a desperate gamble, a contingency plan set in motion by a government that saw the end coming but refused to let the dream die. If the worst should happen, if the bombs fell, these soldiers would be the ones to rebuild. The worst did happen. The world burned. The United States was reduced to ash and legend, just another name lost in the howling chaos of the wasteland. And for 29 years, the vault's technicians kept their watch, aging in silence, waiting for the day the world would be stable enough to wake them. That day has come. In 2106, the chambers unlock. Ice cracks, breath returns, and the army of the past rises once more. They step into a world that is not their own, a world that has forgotten them, a world where law and order have given way to might and madness. But they were not preserved to be forgotten. They were not sent to sleep so that the dream of America would die in the dark. They will reclaim the land. They will rebuild the nation. They will finish what was started. But the wasteland is not a battlefield. It is not a war they were trained to fight. And in this new world, the old rules mean nothing. If they are to bring back the United States, they will have to earn it. Not with guns, not with power-but with will, with sacrifice, and with the sheer, unrelenting belief that America is not just a country. It is an idea. And as long as they stand, it will never die.

The year was 2157 when Earth crumbled and governments fell. Most living things died and their was a silence on earth that was deafening. The first particles of disease fell in North America in the Spring of 2157 and began to scatter and mutate into virus and bacteria. Bombs sailed through cities leveling Government buildings, business and residential. Historians call this period Decay. Ricin poisoning and nerve gases were released. Citizens began to fall ill and die quickly. Later historians found out that a few middle east countries, China and Russia poisoned all food with Ricin. The food was then shipped to US, Canada, UK, many European countries. This period is only known as "Decay' Some humans survived. Either from paranoia or luck, so the stories go. The paranoid ones were waiting for the first signs of a fallout and when it began they hid in their underground 'storage containers'. These were completely sealed once someone closed the door. The doors were automated and within 2 to 5 years depending on the setting chosen the doors would automatically open. The history of the 'lucky ones' is that they knew someone who had a container and welcomed them, or they hid in the container until the family that owned it got in and sealed the door. And hope they would not be killed for trespassing. Now it is 2243. The world has drastically changed. In this world the 'Owners' and 'Potentials' rule the 'communities'. Guards police, keeping communities separated. The Powers rule over what was once called North America now simply called East Nation North (ENN). Superiors handle their community they are assigned to. Under the Powers, Superiors, Water Protectors, Guards, owners and potentials come the animal breeders next on the hierarchy. Then the last three levels don't really matter to anyone. Those are the baby breeders, slaves and throwaways. They have no say in anything.

Prologue War... War never changes... When the bombs fell during the Great War in 2077, and atomic fire consumed the earth, those who survived did so in giant vaults. When these vaults finally their inhabitants set out across ruins of the old world to build new societies, establish new villages, forming tribes. As decades passed, what had been the American Southwest united beneath the flag of the New California Republic, dedicated to old-world values of democracy and the rule of law. As the Republic grew, so did its needs. Scouts spread east, seeking territory and wealth, in the dry and merciless expanse of the Mojave Desert. They returned with tales of a city untouched by the warheads that had scorched the rest of the world. And a great wall spanning the Colorado River. The NCR mobilized its army and sent it east to occupy the Hoover Dam and restore it to working condition. But across the Colorado, another society had arisen under a different flag. A vast army of slaves, forged from the conquest of 86 tribes: Caesar's Legion. Four years have passed since the Republic held the Dam - just barely - against the Legion's onslaught. The Legion did not retreat. Across the river, it gathers strength. Campfires burned, and training drums beat. Through it all, the New Vegas Strip has stayed open for business under the control of its mysterious overseer, Mr. House, and his army of rehabilitated Tribals and police robots. While all this was going on two people lived their lives. Loona, a hellhound and slave of Vulpes Inculta dragged to Nipton as her master made plans to destroy to town. And a courier working for the Mojave Express, who had been selected to deliver the Platinum Chip only to be caught by a man named Benny and left for dead in the Goodsprings Cemetery. Little did anyone know, but these two unassuming people would come together and be to ones to change to fate of the entire Mojave Wasteland... I do not own Helluva boss of Fallout New Vegas.
