Boone, 12-year-old Molly's small town was destroyed by time-traveling Pug-Nasties, led by the evil Ursula Bamcroft.   Now Molly and Veronica are on the run, using the heroic steam engine The Jeremy Bentham to travel through time themselves and cut off the Pug-Nasties before they can strike again.

It's a race through the 20th Century as the girls try to keep the Pug-Nasties from messing up history.  There's just one problem: Ursula knows where she's going and the girls don't.  Because the Jeremy Bentham left Laurentide early, it can only jump from track to track and try to keep up. Can Veronica keep them "on-track?"  Can Molly keep from going crazy?  And can anyone explain why there's a dwarf mongoose in her backpack?
