When Annabelle Dorea Potter gets hit by an unknown spell in the department of mysteries, she's sent back nearly sixty years in the past.
Hermione had once mentioned the parallel universe theory in passing, and most knew the basics of it anyway even without the scientific knowledge behind it. It would correlate perfectly with the already notorious Potter luck for Anna to be sent to a place with no wizards or witches - no way to return home.
The last living Potter does what she has always done best, though: soldier on.
Months and a strangely specific set of circumstances later, Anna finds herself working as a combat nurse with the 107th of the American army. The infantry is captured, and her magic drained from the constant use in the field, so she is resigned to wait with the soldiers and keep as many alive as long as possible until her magic could get them out. She didn't have to worry - a certain sergeant had a certain stubborn hero for a best friend.
