The pungent odor was unbearable. It stole the oxygen from my lungs in a swift motion of inhalation through my nose. I couldn't help it. I broke out into a coughing fit, trying to stop as to not call any attention to myself but it was too late.
"Um, can you not?" I hear a stern voice say from behind me. I freeze, unsuccessfully biting back coughs and tears. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end as warm breaths came closer to my ear. I shut my eyes tight and tried to make myself as small as possible.
"Well aren't you just welcoming?" Jeff said sarcastically. "Listen, it's a smell you get used to and come to love."
