levi ackerman, a poet without purpose, spends his time alone writing letters to his best friend who is trapped on the other side of the world.

after running away together mid-semester, the last few months have been nothing except frantically trading cars, motel rooms, and hiding from police sirens. they had found themselves successful; until police showed up at their apartment door to take erwin away.

shortly after his return to the hometown, his parents send him to an expensive one-year program in australia. empathetic to levi, the man who could not live without another to fill the hole, they send him the mailing address of the home.
