Kat is new to Camp-Half Blood. But she is claimed by Hermes on the first day. Her half sister, Skylar Crawford, shows her around. There's apparently a demigod boy going on a quest and he wants a few demigods along with him. Kat immediately volunteers as Skylar tries to stop her. The boy turns out to be Leo Valdez, going somewhere that he didn't want his friends to know about. When Kat and Skylar go back to their cabin to pack, Skylar explains more about being half god and half human than Kat wanted to ever think about.

The true effects
Leigh has been on the run for a few months now. She works at a fast food restaurant, lying about her age and the gods are being unusually kind. Maybe they are just afraid of the power Leigh has in her hands; to start an entire different race. When her friends find her again, they tell her that when she left Camp Half-Blood, everything changed. Many demigods have die and for some reason, Hecate and Terminus haven't been able to repair the borders around camp and monster attacks are more frequent. Leo was devastated when Leigh left and when she comes back, he needs to know why his heart was ripped in half, and he discovers there might be more to the girl he loves than he had ever known. Percy Jackson was finally able to lay low and have a peaceful life for once.
