All Leila wants is her freedom: to roam the world and go as she pleases, every cell in her body yearns for it. But the orphaned assassins of the Yami temple are not allowed to leave until they turn eighteen, and that is months away. When a foreign king calls, offering an early escape, Leila and her childhood friend Elijah take the job without hesitation. Thrown overnight into a world of court and politics, the two quickly realize they are woefully unprepared.
With a lifetime of training, but no knowledge of the outside world, the two assassins must infiltrate the locked away kingdom of a murderous king and kill him. Failure will cost them their lives; success will grant them freedom.
A kingdom of monsters and deadly secrets has Leila questioning everything that she is. Lies are spun, hearts are played, and suspicions thicken, all while time is running out. Leila is left with the decision that puts the fate of thousands into her blood-stained hands. She must fight for freedom and those that she loves most, but she cannot save both.
