During the summer away from Hogwarts, Aludra makes an exciting discovery; she can talk to and understand snakes.
While her parents make speculations and theories as to how this is possible, they fail to notice that Aludra is going through the physical, emotional and mental changes necessary in becoming a teenage girl. At school, she suddenly finds herself in a whirlpool of confusion, embarrassment and shame like she's never felt before. All of her deepest, darkest secrets and fears are rising to surface, and just as Aludra feels like she's going to have a break down, she remembers the black, leather diary she saw her father slip into Ginny Weasley's cauldron in August. She decides to confide in it, and soon discovers that it is inhabited by the memory of a boy named Tom Riddle.
Tom is kind and patient. He listens to all her problems and offers helpful advice. He tells her that she's smart, funny and beautiful - in that exact order, too. Soon, Aludra begins to depend on Tom like a drug.
Little does she know, Tom has already been using her as a life source.
