On the 12th hour of the first day of October 1989, 43 women around the world gave birth. This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer, resolved to locate and adopt as many of the children as possible.
He got 8 of them....sort of.

Maria Hargreeves was not exactly a Hargreeves but she did get along with everyone. All 8 of the family have powers, super strength, manipulated reality with the phrase "I heard a rumor",  manipulation of thrown objects while in flight, commune with the dead, jump through space and time, has a monster under their skin, controls sound waves and is as light as a feather.

They formed the Umbrella Academy. Elena Romero was a normal girl that hadn't discovered what, if anything, was extraordinary about her. The only thing worth noting is her amazing ability to suffer through hellish dates and live with an over-dramatic mother and an addict of a brother. Some could say her super power was making her dysfunctional family appear functional. She was the glue that held her family together, she was their remedy.
