Witty, quick-tongued, offensively funny, Kara Knight has a dark past that she ran away from 12 years ago, she knows how utterly cliché that sounds, but it's true. Starting her life anew in New York, she became a successful author, an acclaimed professor at a prestigious university (her students made that career less enjoyable), and on her approach to becoming a detective. Winter breaks was her chance to relax, kick back and enjoy in solitude and isolation, just her and her crappy, reality television. However, fate had other plans... Invited back to her old town in Montana, Everwinter, she arrives to catch up with an old friend. When a gruesome homicide takes place, the town is sent into a frenzy, essentially in the light of the fact that it's the first murder to take place since the Everwinter Churner case... and because it's the bratty child of the benefactors that fund the independent town. With a deadly winter storm brewing and the nearest police headquarters nearly 2 days away by car, the local deputies are turned to for help. Kara, unfortunately, has the bad luck of being recognized as a detective in training, she's the closest thing the town has to a competent, intelligent cop and too bad for her, she's quickly warped into the investigation. When two more murders take place, a chilling dread settles over the town and Kara races to catch the serial killer before more people are killed. A thriller murder mystery with enough dark humor to bring tears to your eyes while you shiver under the blankets, Dig Your Own Grave will be the death of you. Let's hope Kara can catch the killer before the aforementioned figurative assertion turns quite literal.
