A new world rises, born from the combined books of beginning, wielded by the magician who had sought after them for millennia. Finally, the Dire Magnus has infinite power in the palm of his hand, the power to to build himself a throne and make the universe kneel at his feet. For those who stand against him and fear his rule, it's a desperate rush to flee from his control, and to search for the hope that seems to be lost forever.

Kate Wibberly stands by the Dire Magnus's side. She managed to free her siblings from his claws, but she herself remains in the belly of the beast, trying to gather information and find a way to fix this for everyone while avoiding the suspicions of her enemies. She's balancing on a tightrope with no safety net beneath her. And yet, even while walking this line, allies and magic are still within reach. As the Dire Magnus expands his rule, Kate builds her own coalition, determined to make things right and protect her family, at any cost.

This new world is not like the old. The clear divides of good and evil have been blurred, and no longer can anyone win anything by sticking to their morals. This is an age of dark magic, of plots and death, lies and tragic motives, and children who double as the monsters under the bed. For those who have always been careless, it's a playground, for those who live by a noble code, a nightmare. And for Kate, known for her kindness but also her ruthless fighting for those she loves, it's something entirely else. She plays her game well, but eventually, she will have to pick a side. Will she fight alongside the resistance and her family? Or will she accept the crown that her enemy - who is also Rafe, the boy she loves - offers her, and become the queen of his universe? All she knows is once again she has to carry the weight of the world, and whatever choices she makes, there will be sacrifices to go along with them.

The clock is ticking, and when it stops, one way or another, Kate's heart will break yet again.

In the aftermath, their parents have tried to adjust them to a normal life, and a normal family dynamic. But the children know that it just doesn't feel right. They can't heal or live like this. And a startling attack causes them to have to flee their home in the dead of night and return to the magical world. It turns out the ghosts of the past have come back to haunt them. And while these new loopholes in the boundaries between life of death allow the siblings to reunite with and seek help from some beloved friends, it also means their deadliest enemy is roaming the world once more, hungry for revenge. And so the three are launched into another quest to save their family and discover what could possibly be causing the very foundations of the world to shift. Michael investigates with a fervor, seeking guidance from many friends and allies among the living and the dead. This book is for those who love slow-burn, chaotic, "how can they be that stupid," "about bloody time," wrench-your-heart-but-make-you-feel-so-good romances. Because what's life without a bit of drama, right? Throw in epic chaos, a princess on the run, and some evil bad guys (because every story needs a villain), and you've got a book that will keep you knee-deep in drama. If you've come here looking for your traditional synopsis, read on, my lovely readers. And if what you really crave is a mix of whump, smut, and rom-com with a side of catastrophe, then look no further-I've got you covered. __________________________________________________________________________ Proper Synopsis When a devastating attack reduces her home to ruins, Princess Sera's only option is to flee. Seeking refuge on Earth, she meets Matthew, the cocky, confident leader of the Allegiant Academy. Little does she know that the man she's starting to fall for is the same person who wields immense power-the one she dubbed 'Ace' and has been her bitter enemy since childhood. But hey, that's not exactly first-date material, is it? Nobody kicks it off with, "Oh, by the way, I have an alter ego who's a fiend-fighting, blood-killer type that hunts savages for sport." Right? As Sera tries to keep her princess status and crystal warrior identity under wraps, she throws herself into becoming someone else. After growing up in war, happiness doesn't just return-it sneaks up on you, like plants pushing through cracked concrete. But when her past comes knocking, threatening to undo everything she's painstakingly rebuilt, she'll quickly learn that truth has impeccable timing-and her destiny has the absolute worst habit of showing up when she least expects it. But seriously, what did she expect? When it comes to life, destiny, and fate, it's never really in our hands, is it? _______________________________________________________________________________

The year is 1899, and Kate has more responsibility then ever placed upon her aching shoulders. She and her siblings have just been thrown out of their orphanage in Baltimore by the cruel Mrs. Crumley, and have no place to go. They haven't seen their parents in over ten years, despite being told they would come back. The three children are on their own in an unforgiving world, not least because they are magic users in a time when their kind are hated and harmed by humans. They make their way to New York, a place with a strong magical population, in the hopes of finding someone to help them, both with survival and finding their long lost parents to reunite their family. It's there they meet the Savages, a gang of magical children who live in an abandoned church and make their living through thieving. They welcome the three siblings, and it's with them that Kate, Michael, and Emma finally find a place to call home. New friends, magic lessons, purpose, and a fascinating city to explore make them think that things are finally looking up. Here with the Savages, Emma can be with children who understand her and let her mischievous side run free, Michael can practice magic and learn spells without fear of being seen and punished, and Kate can share the burdens she has carried for so long with the magician-boy who is leader of the gang, Rafe. And yet, for all the good changes that have happened in the lives of the siblings since they arrived in New York, darkness still clings to them like a shadow. The Separation of human and magical worlds is approaching fast, and the brutal Imps are spreading through the city like a plague. Not to mention, the children aren't any closer to finding answers about their parents and the reason behind their disappearance. Challenges await them, far greater than they ever imagined facing. Through it all, Kate, Michael and Emma must remain strong, because they have destinies awaiting them, and they aren't the only ones who fate has plans for.
