Luz finally escapes the wretched castle she never called home and doesn't look back. She doesn't look forward either because she almost falls off the docks of Bonesborough Bay. Much to her surprise, a strange old woman with an owl on her shoulder and a fabulous hat catches her, but the real catch is in exchange for saving her life, Luz must work for the old woman for six months.
