The world is a dangerous place.

It's not a game, it's not fake, it's not a dream. In a world such as this, a person is expected to survive and fight for their life. They are asked to give it their all. It's tough, yes, the world is dangerous in its poisonous ways. People can be poisonous.

There could be an escape.

Summer vacation is a typical runaway for teenagers as they wrestle with the pressure of school, work, family, and life. Escaping from a place of terror, only to find yourself thrust back where you began. During traveling to Brazil, things goes wrong.

The plane ride gets rocky, shaking and trembling as it plummets toward the earth in a downward glide. They hold on for their lives as they try to douse their fear and anxiety. It swarms them, consuming them in the same manner the plane was swallowed by the waves.

Not all were meant to be.

Nadia wants to be free of her overly protective parents, sauntering down the streets of Brazil and surfing along the crystal blue waves. She began surfing at a young age, living in a place where the activity had to be done inside. Now, the waves of the ocean are her calling to everliving freedom.

Dante doesn't want to be in high school. He wants to spend his time helping the community and improving the lives of those around him. As the neighborhood volunteer, he wanted to dedicate his time to build tiny houses for the poor lives of the south.

Emerson can't wait to graduate. Her dreams of following in her piloting mother's footsteps are beginning to come true. She has learned to fly, and now will be off to college.

Vincent is struggling. He doesn't know who he is or where he belongs in this world. Where people of color are shunned, all while he's sorting out his feelings of loving men.

Sylvia lives for the rush of adrenaline. From playing basketball and being a cheerleader, she takes part in almost every school activity. But, she's holding onto a dark secret.

"You don't really like to open up, do you?" The words startle me, seemingly jagged and impure in contrast to the light and beautiful atmosphere we were in. "I didn't say that." Asher snorted, "You didn't have to." I was quiet for a moment, looking out to the beach and resting my cheek on my knee. "It- It's not that I don't like to," I struggled to find the words good enough to explain. "I just think, maybe, I don't know how to anymore." Asher stares at me for a moment, eyes filled with an emotion that I can't put my finger on. I turn to face him properly, almost gasping when he appears much closer than I remembered. Before I can turn the moment into a joke, he speaks. "Well, if you ever want to learn again, I'll always be right here, Willa. I'm always right here." * Willa Montgomery didn't expect to be uprooted for her last summer before college, but two weeks in, here she is: Santa Monica, California. Willa hasn't had the best life as of recent, and with the impending damage of her parents messy divorce getting harder and harder to avoid, her mom decides the best place for her to be is anywhere but home. Enter Sylvia Edwards, Willa's mother's best friend since middle school, and Willa's godmother. Sylvia is more than glad to host Willa for the entire summer, opening up her beautiful home to her immediately. And with that beautiful home comes the beautiful Asher Edwards, and a whole bunch of memories Willa wasn't even aware she had. Living in a house with Asher, the sweetest yet most persistent guy to exist is both heartwarming and dangerous all at once, because soon enough, the barriers Willa spent years building around her fragile heart are coming down- and fast. Willa had never realized how frozen she was until Asher started to melt her ice. With eyes like oceans, a smile like honey and a touch like heaven. cover by @stylesoftimothee
Exile: The Book of Ever by JamesCormier
30 parts Complete
Centuries after the Fall, the United States has been wiped away. The crumbling remains of the great American empire are home now only to savage, lawless tribes and packs of ravening Damned-the twisted children of the apocalypse. Most of those few who survived humanity's destruction spend their short lives in a violent struggle for survival. But some light still flickers in the darkness: the Blessed of Bountiful live in seclusion, relying on walls both physical and spiritual to protect them from the Desolation that their world has become. Among them are the Saints, those few men and women born with superhuman abilities that the Blessed see as gifts from God. The violent apostate tribes of the Northeast Kingdom have always been a danger, but up until recently its small size and the vigilance of its people have made Bountiful an unappealing target. As attacks on the community grow harsher and more frequent, however, even the steadfast Blessed are forced to start preparing for the worst. With her home's very existence threatened, seventeen year old Ever Oaks, a Saint with the power to heal, is forced to make a difficult choice, one that may come to define her people's future... Exile was a semi-finalist in Mark Lawrence's Great Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (#SPFBO). Fantasy Faction said it was "extremely cool," and Bookish Lifestyle called it "more than just a story, a journey and an experience." When I'm asked about it, I often describe it as "X-Men meets The Walking Dead." In addition to reading it here for free, you can buy Exile in e-book or paperback on Amazon.com.

Death Is My BFFLAD (Book Two Original Series) by katrocks247
24 parts Complete
(Bfflad- Best friends for life and death) Dear Reader, Let's start at the beginning shall we? I died. Oh no, not one of these stories again where someone angelic and heroic saves the damsel in distress. If only I was that lucky. My heart stopped beating. My lungs stopped working, my soul began to lift away... And then I was saved by a beautiful man with a kind heart and sparkles sprinkled around his head in a golden halo. A cunning, dazzling smile etched his angled features and his hair lay perfectly on his head like...black, sinful layers of pure cynical distrusting evil. Evil that was just waiting to onset a innocent girl as myself and allow her a short amount of time of happiness, and then finish her off when she became older. I'll give you a hint. The beginning of that description was slightly exaggerated. The Angel of Death. One of the only creatures known that was capable of settling the boundaries of heaven on earth. The only creature capable of making one of the Devil's darkest deals to my loving mother; a second chance for her daughter. This comes with consequences of course. Everything you know about Death is wrong. Death is not natural, Death is not normal, Death is not doleful, and Death is far from mercenary. Death blends into the shadows like coal against the most atramentous sky. Death walks the earth with his cursed, monstrous and exotic features, his enticing voice and betraying alluring eyes. Death deceives, scratches, and plays with your mind, until you slowly and painfully loose your grip on reality. He'll make you believe he's a different person, that there's a sliver hope for him. Hope for you. Death is close.
