As the only girl in the glade, Lydia, surrounded by hot boys, has to deal with way too much. Her best friend doesn't know which way to turn, her other friend is too deep in his work to avoid being ostracized, and her boyfriend can't stand his life.
Her reciprocal, Aris, is surrounded by girls in the same experiment. The girl, who seems to be the leader, has taken unfair control over the entire population of this trap. His closest friends, both of the same name, may be the only ones who can help him through this disaster. Next to arrive, Rachel may hold the only key to escape.

Along the way, he uncovers fragments of memories and clues about his past, including his connection to a girl named Teresa, who arrives mysteriously in the Glade shortly after him. Conflict arises when the stability of the Glade is disrupted by attacks from Grievers and internal tensions among the boys, exacerbated by Thomas's emerging memories and his role in challenging the status quo. He remembers his involvement in the Maze's creation as part of a secretive organization, W.C.K.D., whose experiments on the Gladers were aimed at finding a cure for a deadly virus, the Flare. He's not one for emotions either, especially in a place like the Glade. He knows something is off, and he does his absolute best to keep order around him and in him, when everything's falls apart. Are these two destined to be together? Or are they too similar in personalities? Are they too broken from their own traumas to work it out? Maybe she likes him. Kind of. Maybe he might like her. She probably hates him. He can't stand her. They don't want the other to know. But maybe they do...a little. Who has time for romance and feelings in a place like The Maze. Life. Romance.
