After Drew Ellis' mother died, he was left grieving and broken. With nowhere else to go, he enlisted in Antelae's army. His squad mates - his battle-forged family - helped him piece himself back together. However, when his legion is attacked by rebels while on assignment and his squad mates are killed in a blast, Drew is left alone once more. Finding it easier to assume the role of a soldier, Drew becomes a member of the castle guard and is dispatched on an assignment of utmost importance to Gerad of Anemoia.
As the depth of Gerad's ambition becomes clear and as rebel backlash against Gerad's tyranny grows, Drew must decide who he wants to be: a hero? Or a villain.
