"Let your minds drift into the world of tales and allow your mouths to spread the word of Fate and Destiny..."

During the carnival season of 1793, the Venetian palace hosts an anonymous masked ball to celebrate the adulthood of the Doge's grandchild and introduce him to the fine society. All eligible women of marital age from Old and New Houses are invited to join the reigning family for this glorious festivity.

But nothing is as simple as it seems, and everybody knows the true cogs behind it all: politics, power, and intrigues - all to please just one certain lady.

A decade ago, under the influence of Cecilia, his daughter in law, the Doge has amended the constitution, allowing every first-born child, disregarding its gender to become the Head of their House. Unfortunately, what is accepted by law is not always endured by society. And therefore, the question remains: will it stop her from perusing her newest plan?

Meanwhile, under the patronage of the reform, the Old House of Rerieri barely escapes its extinction. The three remaining Rerieri sisters have now to claim their place in the unforgiving Venetian society and save their bloodline despite the dark prophecy.

Wealth, lust, power games, and the delicate business of marriage - the perfect play to amuse an innocent spectator, captivated by the enticing story spun by the Destiny-sisters themselves and told by yours truly,

* ONC 2023 Shortlister * "She caught the eye of one of the horsemen, and something in his face caused her to pause mid-step. The man he was standing with, realising he was being ignored, turned to see what he was staring at, and his mouth fell open. 'Arner! The prophecy!' he hissed. That seemed to attract the attention of the whole party, and before Aleyna knew what had occurred, they had all stopped what they were doing, and stared openly at her, before tilting their head in her direction, bowing. The last of the men to lower his head, the one who had first spotted her, was now biting his lip, something like worry creasing his brow, before he too bowed." * * * Aleyna, a professor at Lyknisia's Academika, is from a world of science and reason. To her, magic is something found in children's stories. It's not real, has never been real, and never will be real, and nothing anyone can say will change her mind. Arnerstrom, known as Arner, is King of Mynythia. He is from a world of magic and spirits. A world where the unseen is just as powerful as the known, and where prophecy dictates almost everything. But when a prophecy appears to be fulfilled by chance, Aleyna is whisked away from her books at the behest of Arnerstrom, and taken to a land of mystery and secrets. A land where magic is very real and spirits govern all. Set in the same world as The Winter Ghost, but located many kingdoms apart, The Convert Queen is a fantasy romance novella where what you see isn't always what you need to know.

Thousands of centuries ago humans, vampires, and werewolves lived together in harmony, considering one equal to the other. Ruled by a council of three kings, with one from each fullblood race, peace endured for quite some time. All of it was destroyed when many years later the new vampire and werewolf kings both wanted to rule over the kingdom alone. A massive war broke out between the vampires and the werewolves and millions of lives were lost. In a last attempt to stop the war one hundred years later, the land was divided into three kingdoms, the vampires, humans and werewolves. The borders were shut, crossbreeding was forbidden since it created halfbloods and demons and each kingdom was led by the king of their respective race. In secret, however, it was decided that the human king would watch over them all to prevent another war from ever happening again. Since the human kingdom laid inbetween the other two, the humans invented technology to keep all the races at bay and trained the warriors of their army as skilled hunters. As time and generations went by, the kingdoms became more isolated and the common humans forgot that supernatural beings even existed. However, the war had never truly been resolved so the hatred that the vampires and werewolves had for each other endured. When a mysterious murder occurs, chaos breaks out within the kingdoms. A throne must be taken, blood must be shed, a choice must be made and all must be answered by a girl with purple eyes. "Can you honestly believe your sister is marrying Damien- fucking- Gray??" "Yeah." "Aren't you excited? He's rich. He's hot. And now you get to see him everyday!" "Yeah." "I feel like you aren't listening to me, Tia." Lilian pinches my cheeks, snapping me out of my daydream. "Oh sorry." "Are you excited?" She repeats waiting for me. A tall, broad figure behind her distracts me again. And it's him. Damien Gray. And there's my sister, Marinette. Right behind him. She kisses him deeply, and I notice his eyes remaining open. The gray orbs gaze around before settling on me. And he's just staring at me, an emotion filling his eyes. I've never seen him give my sister this look before. Is it good or bad? Wrong or right? I mean, he's looked at me this way before. Does he only look at me this way? "I guess I am." ✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈« "I don't know. There's something about you." His fingers graze across my cheeks, eyes piercing into my soul. "Something like what?" I blush unconsciously, anticipating his next move. Damien tilts my face up and I tip-toe to match his height, but fail. Taking his free hand, he holds my waist and pushes me up on the wall, inching closer to me. Our lips graze across one another and his eyes darken. "Oh. I think you know, babygirl. I'm attracted." He groans out and I bit my lip. Setting me down, he pulls away and fixes his suit. Leaving me alone in my room, confused. Yeah, it's good. But it's wrong.
