Every year, the land of Aichais hosts the most prestigious, entertaining, and dangerous competition in the world. Riders and their dragons come from all corners of the map to test their skill in the mighty Invictus race, a grueling trek that crosses the entire continent. Cressida Bennett has been training and working with dragons for most of her life, making a name for herself within the male-dominated sport. But when she ignores tradition and becomes the first female to sign up for the Invictus, she faces immediate backlash from the racing community. Cressida is confident she can win it, especially riding Apophis, a notorious wild dragon she has spent years befriending. But it is about more than just crossing the finish line first. They've got a point to prove; that even the most unlikely of contenders can succeed.

Della has the boon of a god, a fated soulmate... and the ire of the rebellion wreaking havoc across the kingdom of Pangessa. She doesn't know how the rebellion thinks she's going to stop them, just that a prophecy says so. Frankly, she would have joined them, if they weren't trying to kill her. She doesn't really want the soulmate, either--Suthi might be hot as a dragon's breath, but she's also one of the rebellion's assassins. And don't even get Della started on the boon--the gifts of the gods are usually given to great heroes who've accomplished incredible things, but she hasn't done anything. Yet. Della wants to be the kind of hero that can earn a boon, she wants to escape Suthi and the rebellion, and she wants to prove that prophecy is bullshit. Becoming a dragon rider should give her everything she wants. But the prophecies that dragons speak always come true... or do they?
